During the excavation of the Azilian levels from the site of Aizkoltzo in 2003 several vertebrate remains
were found. Mammal species are represented in the site by, five rodents, two insectivores, five artiodactyls
and three carnivores, the reptilians by one saurian and three ophidian and the amphibians by one anuran.
The vertebrate assemblage indicates a humid temperate climate quite similar to that occurring in the area
at present day. The macromammals assemblage of Felis silvestris, Meles meles, Sus scrofa and Capreolus
capreolus is usual in the Postglacial of the Cantabrian Basin
