Las redes de apoyo social de la nueva pobreza atendida en el Centro Municipal de Servicios Sociales del Barrio de la Magdalena de Zaragoza

Abstract

Este artículo presenta la investigación1 realizada por un equipo de trabajadores/as sociales con el objetivo de conocer el itinerario de personas que acuden por primera vez a la red de servicios sociales comunitarios afectadas por la situación de crisis económica que aqueja a España desde 2008, denominadas “nuevas pobres”, hasta convertirse en usuarias del Centro Municipal de Servicios Sociales del Barrio de la Magdalena de la ciudad de Zaragoza, así como la relación entre el acceso a dichos servicios y las características estructurales y funcionales de sus redes de apoyo social. Tener una red social retrasa acceder a los servicios sociales. Los resultados se han obtenido a partir de una entrevista semiestructurada realizada a una muestra de 14 personas que incluía una adaptación del Cuestionario de Apoyo Social ASSIS de Barrera (1980), para conocer la estructura y funcionalidad de las redes de apoyo social de cada entrevistado/a, y del mapa de red de Villalba (1993) como representación gráfica de personas percibidas y sus relaciones. Las conclusiones aportan información de interés para incorporar las redes de apoyo social a las intervenciones de los/as trabajadores/as sociales tanto en situaciones en las que existe una red suficiente como en aquellas en que no se utilice, sea débil o inexistente

This paper presents the research conducted by a team of social workers in order to describe the itinerary of people who, affected by economic crisis afflicting Spain since 2008 and known as “the new poor,” become users of a network of community social services for the first time at the Social Services Municipal Center of the neighborhood of Magdalena in the city of Zaragoza, and the relationship existing between access to such services and the structural and functional characteristics of their social support networks. I consider that when people count on social support networks, they do not become Social Services users or become users only when the social support networks available to them are already drained. The results were obtained from semi- structured interviews with a sample of 14 people that included an adaptation of Barrera’s ASSIS Social Support Questionnaire (1980 ) that allowed to understand the structure and function of social support networks for each participant, and Villalba’s network map (1993) as a graphical representation of perceived people and their relationships. The findings provide useful information to incorporate social support networks to the interventions of social workers in situations with sufficient, nonexistent or weak support networks
