Que Huelva posee una historia única, nadie lo duda. Pero que su historia sea reconocida mundialmente, a veces, no lo es tanto. Una reivindicación por el reconocimiento de los Lugares Colombinos como origen de la historia de América es un hecho que no sólo se reclama en la actualidad, sino que hasta personajes extranjeros tan cultos como Elena Whisaw ya reclamaba a principios del siglo XX. Un lugar en la historia en el que la Universidad de Huelva tiene mucho que decir y aportar, y por ello se está luchando por poner en valor la historia americanista de Huelva. Una historia que fue descrita por una inglesa que llegó a Huelva y quedó prendada de ella, llegando a ser una figura muy importante para Niebla, Tharsis, Riotinto y los Lugares Colombinos. Historias que son recuperadas gracias a la intensa labor de investigación que desde la Onubense se apoya. Y es que la Universidad de Huelva sigue estando a la vanguardia de la investigación, no sólo de materias más concretas y mediáticas como las relacionadas con la química o física, sino también con la historia, la antropología y materias más sociales de Humanidades que de carreras técnicas. Los grupos de investigación de la Universidad de Huelva trabajan constantemente en materias tan interesantes como poder reivindicar el lugar en la historia de la provincia, y gracias a acuerdos con la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía y la Real Sociedad Colombina Onubense, entre otros.
The fact that Huelva owns a unique history is not doubted by anybody. However, the fact that its history is recognized worldwide is sometimes not so known. An acceptance for the recognition of “Lugares Colombinos” (“Columbus’ Places”) as the origin of American history is a fact that is not only reclaimed nowadays; but even foreign characters as cultivated as Elena Whisaw had already done so at the beginning of 20th Century. A position in history, where the University of Huelva has much to say and provide; and therefore, they are fighting to highlight the importance of the Americanist history of Huelva. A story that was described by an English woman, who came to Huelva and fell in love with it, and who even become a very important figure for Niebla, Tharsis, Riotinto and the “Columbus’ Places”. Stories which are recovered thanks to the intense investigation work, which is supported by the university. The fact is that the University of Huelva is still at the forefront of the research, not only of more specified and media matters such as those related to chemistry or physics; but also to history, anthropology and more social matters of Humanities than of technical degrees. The research teams of the University of Huelva work constantly on themes as interesting as being able to reclaim the position in history of this province, and thanks to agreements with the International University of Andalusia and the Real Sociedad Colombina Onubense (“The Royal Colombina Society of Huelva”), among others.
