Balanced cross-section of the Sierra Cantabria (Basque-Cantabrian basin thrust on the Ebro basin)

Martínez Torres, Luis M.
On the transversal of Puerto de Herrera (Alava), the southern limit of the Basque-Cantabrian basin thrusts on the Ebro basin in favour of two thrusting sequences. The minimum shortening measured exceeds 35% with a 3.25 kilometers stacking of the series at the front. Besides, a transport of the materials of ovrer 15 kilometers can be deduced. The thrustings were generated from the tectonic inversion of the normal faults which conditioned the Upper Cretacious deposit and, perhaps, an early diapirismes_ES
