Abstract
The eastern part of Iberia underwent extension during the Mesozoic and, as a result, intraplate basins were formed. These basins were inverted during the Tertiary giving rise to the Iberian Chain thrust belt. The analysis of a crustal section transverse to the Iberian Chain is presented; this section is based on a gravimetric model, and an area conservation through it is asumed. From this analysis a Mesozoic extension of 47 km and a Tertiary shortening of 75 km is estimated
