There is the common belief that coal macerals of inertinite group are essentially inert in any conversion process. Particularly, the low plastic properties achieved by inertinite during the pyrolysis stage of coal combustion are thought to affect the porosity of coal chars and therefore give rise to poor combustion efficiencies. This study reports on the excelent combustion performance of some high inertinite coals, compared with others with the same rank and low inertinite contenten_US
