In Campillos (Málaga, Spain) there exist a series of wet playas protected as Natural Reserves. The salinity
and hydrochemical characteristics of the water of these playas are related to the lithology of their basins.
The detailed geological mapping on the periphery of the protected area and the analyses of several
hydrological and hydrochemical indicators has allowed us to establish the hydrological dynamics of this
system. Infiltration is produced over the neogene and paleogene materials outcropping on a hill in the
centre of the system; ground water recharge on the different playas constitutes an important fraction of
the hydrological balance depending on the season
