Transcurrido ya suficiente tiempo desde la puesta en marcha de la integración, ésta sigue siendo hoy una experiencia educativa controvertida, inadecuadamente entendida por muchos y discutiblemente aplicada. Junto con logros innegables, presenta todavía importantes lagunas en su desarrollo, quizás porque no se haya comprendido suficientemente que la clave no sólo depende de los aspectos legislativos, sino que estriba en gran medida en el compromiso y colaboración de las distintas partes implicadas, haciendo un especial énfasis en el profesorado en su conjunto, como agente de cambio educativo y de mejora de la escuela. Desde esta perspectiva, el Proyecto UNESCO supone una importante contribución en los procesos de innovación educativa, en cuanto estrategia favorecedora del desarrollo profesional del profesorado en una escuela para todos.
Although time enough has passed since the implementation of the integration plan in Spain, integration keeps on being a controversial educational practice, wrongly understood by some and sometimes carried into practice with arguable methods. Despite its achievements, integration still has many difficulties to overcome for its full development. This is maybe due to the fact that to achieve a successful implementation of integration, several aspects must be considered. Amongst them, legislative aspects are very important, although the key lies in the commitment and collaboration of the different parties involved. This is the point where the role of the teachers comes into full force, since they are the key to introduce changes and improvements in the school. From this point of view, the UNESCO project means an important contribution to the processes of innovative education since the project develops strategies that benefit the professional development of the teachers in a school for all.
